Eleanor Gummer holds a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from McGill University, a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Manitoba as well as Fellowship and Licentiate diplomas from Trinity College of Music, London and an Associate diploma in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music.
Ms. Gummer has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the prestigious Giuventu Musicale d’Italia and has performed across Canada and in Italy. As a student, she spent several summers studying at the Banff School of Fine Art and in New York City with Karl Ulrich Schnabel.
Eleanor Gummer has been teaching private and group piano classes as well as school music for over 35 years. A trained Early Childhood Music Educator, Ms Gummer has worked with children from the age of 3 as well as students at the college level. A former National Course Supervisor with Yamaha, she is familiar with Orff, Kodaly and various music programs for children.
Ms. Gummer is active as a workshop clinician, adjudicator with the Canadian Adjudicators Association and is an examiner for Conservatory Canada. She is a former senior examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music. Ms Gummer is currently the President of the Whitby Branch of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers' Association.
Outside of teaching, Mrs. Gummer enjoys practicing, cooking, gardening and spending time with her granddaughters and cat. She also regularly dedicates time to community service around her home town in Ontario to help promote music
Eleanor Gummer is also the CEO of One Eye Publications. She is the author of Pianokids®, Violinkids® and Guitarkids®. Recently she has become actively involved in the research of under-represented women composers from the last 300 years, publishing over 25 volumes of works by women. She is a frequent speaker at conferences and events across North America.
